Senator Madigan Reappointed to Chair Senate Transportation CommitteeSen. Roger Madigan (R-Bradford) has been re-appointed to serve as chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee, which plays a lead role in legislation related to the state's roads, bridges, rail lines and mass transit issues. Madigan has served as the chairman since 1999. The Transportation Committee is responsible for reviewing and making recommendations on all proposals that would affect the state's transportation system before the bills are brought before the Senate. The committee also works closely with the State Transportation Commission to review and recommend state funding for road and bridge repair projects on the state's 12-year transportation plan. "This year, we face many challenges -- particularly on how to fund mass transit and whether to privatize toll roads to raise revenue," Madigan said. "I'm looking forward to working with my colleagues to develop solutions that will improve our transportation system." Sen. Madigan was also appointed to serve as vice chairman of the Senate Labor and Industry Committee and will continue to serve as a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, which plays a major role in shaping the state budget and determining how state dollars are spent. His other Senate committee assignments include Agriculture, and Rules and Executive Nominations. "Senate committees serve as the workshops of the legislative process, providing a forum for important ideas and input," Sen. Madigan said. "I look forward to playing an active role in developing and moving important legislation through the various Senate committees on which I serve." CONTACT: Nick Troutman
